Starting point:
Tolminske Ravne. Just before Tolmin (if you are coming from the south) turn to the right towards Zadlaz or Žabče village. Follow signposts for Zadlaz or Tolminske Ravne. The road to Tolminske Ravne is entirely paved but narrow and often inconvenient for meeting oncoming vehicles. There is a small parking lot at the end of the road in Tolminske Ravne on the right side (12 km from Tolmin).
Description:
Continue by the parking lot straight on a cart road past two cattle gates. The path goes down slightly, and after a water reservoir splits into a flatter (longer) and steeper (shorter) path. They are both nicely marked and lead to Razor alpine meadow. The ascent to Razor goes through a beech forest with peculiar tree shapes. There is a short section on the steep path, which is slightly precipitous and has some steel cables for security. Views in all directions open from the gorgeous Razor meadow. The cheese 'factory' is active here in summer, plus 'Koča Na Planini Razor' hut is open as well. Above the hut follow the signposts for Vogel and continue through the forest for a while. Before long the path splits: left is 'Globoko' saddle, but you go to the right towards Vogel. A lovely path leads eastwards in a moderate slope, and takes you to a large basin between Mt. Žabiški Kuk and Mt. Vogel. Continue on a grassy-rocky terrain in the same direction to a ridge, which you reach between both mentioned summits. Here you turn sharply to the left and ascend to Vogel summit along the ridge. You will see the Vogel ski slopes just below you and perhaps even a corner of Lake Bohinj; a bit further the central Julian Alps boast.
From the summit you have to cross towards north-west until Globoko saddle and go back down to Razor meadow from there. This section of the ridge is not entirely passable, thus the marked hiking path moves to the right (Bohinj) side just below the summit and continues slightly below the ridge. The path is easy, well marked and takes you to Globoko saddle in about half an hour; there is just a brief ascent before the saddle. If you wish to stay on the ridge a bit longer, you can follow an unmarked (well traced) footpath from Vogel summit, which continues along the ridge towards west. After a short ascent to 'Vrh Krnic' summit the path descends steeply and reaches a place, where the ridge gets very difficult. You will spot the marked path below you (right side); go down to it across gravel and proceed along it to Globoko saddle. Just below the saddle there are remains of bunkers from the 1st World War (Soča front), which are in a really bad condition, so it is not advisable to enter them. Descend to Razor meadow on a pleasant mule track in hairpin-turns and return to Tolminske Ravne on one of the above mentioned paths.
